A key outcome of the OLT project was the mapping of research education coordination. We identified wide variations in the range of responsibilities undertaken by those occupying research education coordination roles. Some saw the role as primarily working with students, others focused on supervisors, and yet others worked with their institutions as implementers of policies and practices. It is common for many of these functions to actually overlap as it becomes necessary, for example, to influence the institution or supervisors in order to work effectively with students.
